Oklahoma State University and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) are conducting a research project on Rio Grande wild turkey harvest and population monitoring in Western Oklahoma. Oklahoma State University will be filling 6 full-time, temporary technician positions to assist with field research from January through April, 2027.

Location: Roger Mills County, OK 

Salary: $15/hour (plus housing)

Successful applicants will assist 2 graduate students with capture and handling (including GPS tags) of Rio Grande wild turkeys. Other duties throughout the season include deploying and retrieving camera traps and autonomous recording units (ARUs), monitoring tagged birds, investigating mortality sites, data processing and entry, and equipment maintenance. Additionally, successful applicants should demonstrate the ability to follow directions, work well in team settings and independently, and maintain a positive disposition. 

Shared housing is provided. Housing will consist of rooms with several beds, as well as a shared living room, kitchen, and full bathroom. Laundry facilities are included. Wi-Fi is usually accessible at the fieldhouse but is unreliable. Successful applicants should expect the shared lodging to include coed living situations and be somewhat remote, as the nearest substantial towns are approximately 30-45 minutes away. Work trucks will be provided.
