Description
AVIAN RESEARCH TECHNICIAN needed for songbird and habitat surveys in Nevada's backcountry through July 16, 2025 for Great Basin Bird Observatory. Partial season appointments possible, but not preferred. End-of-season extensions for data processing possible. Technicians will work a 10-days-on, 4-days-off schedule.

Duties include bird surveys via point counts and area searches, vegetation surveys, setting up field cameras and automated recording units, and data processing.

Qualifications needed include: experience identifying western birds by sight and sound; ability to collect field data under challenging conditions (heat, cold, terrain, remote sites); familiarity with western flora; working knowledge of MS Excel for data entry; valid drivers license and experience driving 4wd vehicles.  Applicants must be in good physical condition, as long hours in field will be required, in sometimes difficult terrain. Ability to work independently and in remote locations is a must.

Training for all survey protocols will be provided.

Compensation: up to $2800/month (depending on experience). Housing will be provided in some areas, but remote camping will be required on a regular basis. To apply, please submit your resume and at least 3 references by email.
