The University of Florida Game Lab is recruiting 1-2 research technicians for a wild turkey ecology research project in Florida. Fieldwork will be located near Tallahassee, Florida. Shared housing (no pets) and field vehicles will be provided. The successful candidates will work on a crew with postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, field site coordinators, and other technicians on various aspects of turkey monitoring fieldwork including but not limited to: tracking and downloading radio-tagged turkeys, monitoring nests and broods, and nest vegetation surveys. Field conditions include inclement weather, hot and humid temperatures, biting insects, and occasional wet conditions. Salary is $15/hr.
Qualifications: Applicants should have a background in wildlife biology and field research and be working toward or have completed a B.S. in Wildlife Biology or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in radio telemetry, tracking/triangulating wildlife, and safely operating trucks and UTVs off-road. Successful applicants must be able to work independently at a field station and maintain respect and awareness of other research and events at the field station. Applicants must also be able to tolerate harsh environmental conditions, early mornings, and long hours when necessary. A valid U.S. driver’s license is required.
