Description
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant Livestock Manager works in close coordination with the Livestock Manager and Farm Supervisor on all aspects of Tech Farm operations. The position supports Tech Farm livestock production by tending and feeding animals, constructing and maintaining livestock fencing, producing and harvesting hay, and assisting with livestock sales. To perform these functions, the position operates, maintains, and repairs various types of farm equipment and facilities. The position is responsible for training, organizing, and supervising a farm crew of 4-8 student workers. The position frequently communicates with and collaborates with School faculty and staff and assists them upon request with animal and plant science teaching labs, animal science research projects, public outreach and FFA career development events, and South Campus SGA student organization activities.
QUALIFICATIONS: B.S. degree required. Degree in Agricultural Sciences or related field is preferred. At least 3 years of livestock management experience with tasks that will support the farm’s equipment, facilities, and functions preferred. Welding experience is highly valued to carry out facilities and equipment maintenance. A strong understanding of diagnosing illnesses and addressing health concerns in cattle in a pasture setting is highly desirable. Demonstrated integrity and professionalism in a team setting, and commitment to serving the School’s mission and meeting the needs of School faculty, staff, and students. Flexibility in scheduling, which includes availability during nights, weekends, and holidays.
