Job Summary
The University of North Georgia Department of Biology invites applicants for a ten month tenure - track position at the assistant professor level. We seek a Computational Biologist who develops and uses mathematical and/or computational models to address fundamental questions in biology. The successful candidate will have a strong background in programming, data analysis, statistics, or machine learning, irrespective of the model system.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses in general biology plus candidate's area(s) of expertise
- Scholarly work involving undergraduates
- Advising students
- Service to the department, university, and community
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. degree in biology or a closely related field
- Demonstrated experience in bioinformatics and statistics
- Proficient in computer programming including but not limited to Python, R and/or Perl, C++, and commonly used bioinformatics software for analysis of large data sets
- Biology teaching experience at the undergraduate level
Preferred Qualifications
- Research program that combines computational and experimental work
- Strong background and understanding of statistical software
- Ability to work with faculty and students from diverse backgrounds
- Candidates who demonstrate an ability to engage in interdisciplinary research are especially welcome
