Are you passionate about wildlife conservation and eager to gain hands-on field experience? WildComm Research Stations is offering an exciting internship opportunity focused on giraffe and rhino research within a private wildlife reserve in South Africa. This private wildlife reserve is also home to 2 of the Big Five!
About the Internship
About the Internship
This internship provides an immersive experience in giraffe and rhino monitoring, focusing on population dynamics, behavior, habitat use, and conservation management. Interns will work closely with experienced researchers to:
- Conduct field observations and collect behavioral data.
- Assist in identification and tracking of individual giraffes and rhinos.
- Participate in habitat assessments to understand species distribution.
- Support data analysis and contribute to ongoing research projects.
Who Should Apply?
This internship is ideal for students or graduates in wildlife conservation, ecology, zoology, or related fields who are looking to gain practical research experience in the field. No prior experience is required, but a strong interest in African wildlife and conservation is essential.
Please note that a monthly conservation fee is required, which covers the following:

- Conservation Fees: As you’ll be staying on a wildlife reserve, a portion of your fee will go towards supporting the protection and care of the land and the species that inhabit it.
Comfortable accommodation and three meals a day will be provided.
- Transportation: Students are picked up from and dropped off at the Polokwane airport.
Duration of Stay
You have the flexibility to choose the length of your stay. We recommend a commitment of 2 to 4 months to fully immerse yourself in the experience and make the most of the opportunities available.
