Cattle Ranch Internship
 
The 1911 Cattle Company is offering an exciting learning opportunity for individuals eager to gain hands-on experience in a ranch located in Bryan, Texas, with a particular focus on rotational grazing, fencing, land stewardship, and regenerative agriculture practices. This internship is perfect for those who want to learn new and time-tested techniques for land and animal regeneration and enjoy physical and outdoor work, problem-solving, and working independently, all while contributing to the daily operations of a regenerative cattle ranch.
 
As an intern, you will work closely with the ranch manager and team to: 
·      Implement grazing plans, 
·      monitor the performance of the herd, 
·      identify diseases in the animals,
·      maintain records such as calving, rotation, and other vital data from the herd, 
 
The 1911 Cattle Company is a pasture to plate cow/calf operation committed to sustainable and regenerative ranching practices, where adaptive multi-paddock grazing plays a crucial role in improving soil health, enhancing biodiversity, and reducing environmental impact. Fencing and effective herd management are integral to ensuring successful grazing rotations that benefit both livestock and the land.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Herd Management: Assist in supervising and managing grazing herds, ensuring they are rotated through paddocks to support soil regeneration and prevent overgrazing. Managing the feeding and care of the cattle herd, ensuring their well-being throughout the seasons. Feeding, maintaining herd health, and monitoring for signs of illness or injury.
  • Regenerative Agriculture Tasks: Learn and assist with practices aimed at improving soil health, water retention, and pasture management through responsible grazing practices.
  • Breeding & Calving Records: Recording and reporting breeding, calving, and inventory movement to the office.
  • Maintenance: Maintaining and cleaning ranch facilities and equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Equipment and Vehicles: Operating and maintaining heavy equipment for various projects, including grounds, fences, and trails upkeep.
  • Projects: Assist in creating new projects.
 
Requirements:
  • Basic knowledge of cattle, with a strong interest in regenerative agriculture and land management.
  • Experience operating ranch equipment (pickups ATV’s, tractors, pulling trailers, using small machinery, and driving manual transmissions) is preferred but not mandatory. You will be expected to learn these skills during the internship.
  • Physically able to perform ranch work in all weather conditions, including heat, rain, and wind.
  • Basic computer knowledge and proficiency with Word and Email.
  • Prior experience in ranch work, fencing, or outdoor labor is a plus but not required.
  • A strong desire to work, self-motivation, good communication skills, and a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with a positive attitude and strong observational skills.
