Description
Are you passionate about wildlife conservation and hands-on field experience? Join us at the Bushveld Biodiversity Research Centre, based on a 27,000-hectare game reserve, for a unique rehabilitation and research internship. This is a long-term, ongoing project, providing continuous care to injured and orphaned wildlife while contributing to broader conservation research.
What You’ll Be Doing:
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Assisting in our wildlife rehabilitation centre, which focuses on the care and rehabilitation of small mammals and birds.
- Supporting one of our ongoing research projects, such as our Predator Project (monitoring leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas) or Giraffe Project (population monitoring and behaviour studies).
What We Offer:
- A diverse learning experience across rehabilitation and field research.
- Access to a vast and biodiverse reserve, home to two of the Big Five, 17 antelope species, and a wide range of predators and birdlife.
- Hands-on training in wildlife monitoring techniques, camera trapping, and habitat surveys.
Who We’re Looking For:
- Passionate individuals who are eager to gain practical conservation experience.
- No prior experience is required, but a background in wildlife conservation, ecology, or animal care is a plus.
Location:
- Based at our remote research camp in South Africa with a small, dedicated team.
Please note that a monthly conservation fee is required, which covers the following:
- Conservation Fees: As you’ll be staying on a wildlife reserve, a portion of your fee will go towards supporting the protection and care of the land and the species that inhabit it.
Basic but comfortable bush-style accommodation with shared facilities will be provided.
- Transportation: Pick-up from and drop-off at the Polokwane airport, weekly or bi-weekly town trips for students to restock supplies, and daily drives around the reserve.
This fee ensures that your experience contributes to both your well-being and the vital work of preserving the reserve.
