Position Description:   The Wildlife Toxicology Laboratory at Texas Tech University is seeking an individual capable of working in wildlife parasitology and toxicology.  The work will primarily include field research and some laboratory research, particularly involving avian species. We need someone with experience in handling birds and conducting avian studies for sample collection.  Additional expertise in molecular biology would be valuable, particularly experience with PCR.  Demonstrated experience would be extremely important to our laboratory.  The selected individual must be capable of working in an interdisciplinary team in a very active research laboratory engaging both laboratory and field research.   

Minimum Qualifications:   B.S. in biology, wildlife, ecology, parasitology, or related field from a regionally accredited institution or university.  General laboratory experience; familiarity with avian behavior and anatomy; performing animal necropsies; Texas driver’s license or ability to acquire one; collecting biological samples, particularly under field settings; strong work ethic; good communication skills; ability to work well with employees; ability to work independently and within a group.

 

Preferred Qualifications:   M.S. in biology, wildlife, ecology, parasitology, or related field from a regionally accredited institution or university; performing necropsies of birds; data entry on laptop computer and statistical analyses; parasite identification, ability in quantitative PCR.
