Description
One M.S. position is available in the Division of Coastal Sciences, School of Ocean Science and Engineering, The University of Southern Mississippi (https://www.usm.edu/ocean-science-engineering/index.php). The campus is located at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (https://www.usm.edu/gcrl) in the City of Ocean Springs on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The graduate student is expected to begin in the Fall semester of 2025 and will conduct research focused on evaluating nature-based solutions for restoring coastal wetlands and mitigating flood risks. Coastal wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems in the world and provide a wide variety of key ecosystem services. Conserving and restoring coastal wetlands applying nature-based solutions is critical for them to continue to provide societal benefits. In addition to conducting field experiments and computer simulations, the student will have the opportunity to collaborate with an interdisciplinary research team and explore these questions through a social science lens.
Applicants should be highly motivated to learn new research skills, have a BS with background in ecology, geography, or a closely related field with a GPA of 3.0 and above. Experiences in quantitative modeling, or GIS/Remote Sensing are desirable but not required. Assistantship with competitive stipend and tuition waiver will be provided.
