Description

The Department of Fish Wildlife and Conservation Ecology at New Mexico State University seeks a candidate to establish a competitively funded research program in avian ecology to address applied questions related to conservation and management of birds with relevance to the state of New Mexico, as well as regionally, nationally and internationally. We seek a candidate with demonstrated expertise in movement ecology, habitat use and selection, and/or population ecology. This is a tenure track, 9-month position with an allocation of effort that includes the expectation of mission-oriented research, teaching, and outreach. The successful candidate will show a commitment to excellence in research and teaching, including specific evidence of: (1) interest and expertise in ornithology with an emphasis on population ecology and management or related areas; (2). potential to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels on topics such as ornithology, gamebird/avian ecology, wildlife management, as well as lower-level courses.
Success in this position requires excellence and expertise that strengthens the university’s mission to engage students, community members, and affiliated scientists on issues related to wildlife management and conservation. The faculty member will establish a nationally-recognized research program that will encompass clear, tangible benefits to management, conservation, and policy. In addition, the successful candidate will be able to collaborate with diverse and multicultural faculty in the FWCE department and broader NMSU community. Although no formal extension duties are outlined in the position, outreach and service to the department, university, and the public are essential aspects of this position. Excellence in teaching is required with an anticipated teaching load of 2-3 courses annually. Advising of both undergraduate and graduate students is expected. The position will also foster collaborations and participate in activities and on research teams that support the work of the Center for Excellence in Sustainable Food and Agricultural Systems (CESFAS.)

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with post-doctoral experience are strongly preferred.
