Description
Gain invaluable avian banding skills while working in beautiful western Montana. Work on an ongoing long-term study of the evolutionary ecology of western and mountain bluebird populations. Gain experience in many avian field techniques (e.g. banding, DNA sampling, morphological measurements, behavioral observations, etc) while living in the midst of the Rocky Mountains. Must be comfortable working alone and be physically fit (capable of carrying a moderately heavy backpack during daily 5+ miles of mountain hiking). Expect to work long days, with early morning starts, six days a week. Prior experience working with birds not required, but prior field work experience is highly desirable. Self-motivation, enthusiasm for learning and strong work ethic a must. Position starts ~May 15th and continues through July, with a possibility of extending to mid-August. Lodging and a meal stipend will be provided. Must have reliable vehicle for commuting to field sites. E-mail a cover letter, resume/CV, and the names, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of three references to Dr. Renee Duckworth, rad3@arizona.edu.
