Description
The Wildlife Health Team at the Nevada Department of Wildlife is looking to hire CWD technicians for the Fall hunting season, starting in early July 2025 until late December 2025.  The technicians will be based out of Reno, NV. Housing WILL NOT be available.  Working on weekends and willingness to handle biological samples is required. 
 
 
Major duties include:
 
·        Run designated check stations, which includes interacting with hunters, recording accurate data, collecting CWD samples and properly storing biological samples for transport to the Wildlife Health Lab. Training of volunteers may be required. 
·        Driving to various offices/check stations across the state to pick up samples and deliver them to the Wildlife Health Lab in Reno. 
·        Maintain all CWD equipment and inventory supplies. Communicating with supervisor about restocking necessary supplies. 
·        Be on call to take CWD samples from hunters within transport restriction zones (TRZ), which may involve meeting them in the field independently. 
·        Drive roads within the TRZ and various other areas looking for road killed animals. When found, collect data and a CWD sample.  
·        Collect heads from various taxidermists across the state. 
·        Take CWD samples from heads collected at taxidermists. 
 
 
 
Preferred qualifications: 
 
 
·        Experience using handheld GPS devices/apps. 
·        Experience recording sample data. 
·        Comfortability collecting and handling biological samples. 
·        Ability to work independently in rural areas and varying weather conditions. 
·        Valid, state-issued driver’s license (mandatory).
