Position Description: Gain hands-on education and experience in leading groups in outdoor settings, providing a fun, safe, and supportive atmosphere for program participants. The intern will serve as support leader and co-counselor for high school students as they engage in program activities in the afternoons, evenings, and weekends. The intern will be trained in developing activities that develop healthy team dynamics and will support the program lead and staff in implementing education and adventure programs.

The intern should expect to be involved heavily during the program from July 7-25th, including up to three overnight trips, with somewhat relaxed schedules in the weeks preceding and following.

  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and provide leadership to youth
  • First Aid and CPR certification a plus

Why You’ll Love It: Northern Vermont, at Sterling College in particular, is an incredible place to be in the summer! Everywhere is green and bursting with life, the on-campus farm is abundant with produce and the animals are grazing the land. Fruits and wildflowers are found in the edible forest, and the understory and overstory of our trail networks are lush with growth. You’ll be living among a community of people who believe working together, and hand in hand with the earth, is the way of life. Help live this vision, and support a group of high school students as they learn to experience it together.

Benefits: The intern will receive a $200/week stipend for the duration of the position. Housing is provided for the full term, with meals provided starting July 7. (Food boxes can be arranged for prior to this time). The intern will have access to student rates for any gear and/or equipment rentals for the duration of their internship.
