Description
Title: OPS Hunter Check Station Operator
Agency: Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
Location: Harold A Campbell Public Use Area, Palm Beach County
Job Description: Incumbent will be responsible for the operation of a deer hunting check station near Everglades and Francis S. Taylor, Holey Land, and Rotenberger Wildlife Management Areas in South Florida for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). The check station operator is responsible for opening and staffing the check station, collecting hunter user data, weighing and measuring game, collecting biological samples (including lymph node for chronic wasting disease sampling), accurately and legibly completing harvest and pressure paperwork, courteously and accurately answering hunter questions, interacting with FWC’s law enforcement officers, and representing the agency in a professional manner while providing service to the public.
The location of the check station is in a remote location near the Palm Beach/Broward county line. A mobile check station (i.e. travel trailer) with electricity, air conditioning, and restroom will be provided. Hours are on Saturday and Sunday only during the hunt seasons, starting at sunrise until at least one hour after sunset each day (approximately 16 hours per day). The hunting season starts early August and goes until mid-November.
Qualifications:
· This job involves strenuous work in extreme weather conditions typical of South Florida and requires the incumbent to be in good physical condition.
· Candidates should be comfortable talking with hunters and handling harvested game.
· Candidates must have reliable transportation and the ability to work long hours independently once trained.
· Trailering capabilities are preferred.
Salary: $15/hour. This is an OPS position and does not provide benefits. This position is temporary and will end with the close of hunting seasons.
