Description
HWA Wildlife Consulting, LLC (HWA) is a natural resource (wildlife and plant) consulting firm that specializes in wildlife monitoring, regulatory compliance, impact assessment, and wildlife research. We are looking for motivated avian biologists to join our team to assist with fatality monitoring within a wind development site near Cut Bank, Montana. Duties would include searching for carcasses, observing eagles, and collecting observation data. Positions will begin June 2, 2025 and will go through May 2026. Housing and transportation in the field are provided.
Field work would occur in a remote location and would require field navigation, observing and documenting avian species, and recording relevant information.

· A.S. or B.S. degree in Wildlife, Natural Resources, Ecology, or related field.
· Ability to hike for long hours (up to 10 miles a day) over rough terrain.
· Ability to identify common avian species of Montana, especially eagles and other raptor species. Experienced in the use of field guides and keys for identification.
· Ability to follow all safety protocols and use good judgement while in the field.
· Experience driving in winter conditions and use of 4WD vehicle.
· Ability to work independently and with a team.
· Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
· Drug screening required (pre-employment and random testing).
The ideal applicant must have a strong background and experience conducting avian identification surveys, preferably with eagles and other raptor species. They also must have a keen sense of observation, careful field data collection skills, strong navigational skills, and be proficient using computers, GPS units, and other electronic devices. Preferred candidates will be highly motivated, responsible, self-reliant, get along well with others, and enjoy working in challenging field settings. Field conditions include high elevations, rugged terrain, and highly variable weather conditions. Above all, we are looking for applicants with a good sense of humor and strong work ethic who are dedicated to accomplishing tasks as part of a team.
Applicants should be physically capable of extensive field work and should exhibit professionalism in landowner and agency interactions as representatives of HWA.
