Location: Various locations in California (including San Diego, Bakersfield, Fresno, Kernville, Porterville, Lancaster, Victorville, Visalia); potential travel to AZ, NV, NM, OR, WA
Status: On-call / Non-exempt
Compensation: $35–$55/hour (DOE)
Hours: Flexible, up to 40+ hours/week

About the Role:
SummitWest Environmental, Inc. is hiring a skilled Wetland Delineator to support jurisdictional water delineations, permitting, and regulatory compliance projects across California. The role is ideal for professionals experienced in fieldwork, wetland science, and environmental permitting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct wetland delineations using Army Corps of Engineers methodology and regional supplements
- Delineate other waters, including OHWM and CDFW streambeds
- Support or prepare jurisdictional delineation reports and regulatory permit applications
- Conduct construction monitoring and pre-construction avoidance measures
- Collect, QA/QC, and manage field data using ESRI tools and mobile devices
- Lead field teams and mentor junior staff
- Evaluate project impacts per CWA Sections 401/404 and CA Fish and Game Code 1600 series
- Maintain organized digital field records and ensure safety compliance
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s in biology, ecology, environmental science, or related field
OR 3+ years of wetland delineation experience - Completion of a 40-hour SWS-approved wetland delineation training
- 3+ years of experience in environmental consulting or related fieldwork
- Demonstrated ability to prepare jurisdictional delineation reports
- Familiarity with wetland vegetation, soils, hydrology, and OHWM indicators
- Valid U.S. work authorization and driver’s license
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and digital field data collection tools
Preferred:
- Experience supporting utility projects (e.g., SCE or PG&E)
- Trained in CRAM and MESA Guidelines for the Arid West
- Wildlife/plant permitting or special-status species survey experience
- Environmental compliance monitoring experience
- 4x4 driving experience and remote fieldwork capacity
