Description
Research Technician position (part time or full time) in the Department of Fish and Wildlife Sciences, College of Natural Resources at the University of Idaho.
 
Salary: $26,000 (part time), $52,000 (full time); Depends on experience; 8-16-month appointment
 
Start date: Flexible, but sometime during mid to late 2025. 
 
Location of work: Preference is for Moscow, Idaho, but can be negotiated. 
 
Description: This position involves identifying the historical ecological trends and outcomes resulting from changes in grazing management that were intended to support and improve riparian systems. This will be accomplished by analyzing existing aerial imagery to determine historical and current trends in riparian areas. This position involves planning, designing, conducting, and overseeing geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing databases to address the research project goal. This position is responsible for facilitating spatial data analysis and development, managing spatial databases, and applying data to determine historical and current trends in riparian areas. Work will involve compiling information and data from various formats into databases to ensure compatibility, performing spatial and statistical analysis, coordinating with project personnel to accomplish project goals, working independently to create databases for this research project, participating as a team member, and contributing to team efforts.
 
Minimum qualifications 
·       Master of Science degree in Geography, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related field (in progress or completed).
·       2 or more years of experience and/or graduate education with spatial modeling, data management, and GIS using ArcGIS or other spatial modeling software to plan,            design, and conduct spatial analysis.
·       Experience with remote sensing (LANDSAT, NAIP, and LiDAR) data for application in ecology or natural resource conservation and management.
·       Experience with ArcGIS software, Microsoft software (Access, Excel, Word, Powerpoint), Python, SQL, or other computer scripting language.
·       Experience with R statistical language or other statistical software
·       Demonstrated experience in working with a diverse group of cooperators and partners.
·       Experience in planning, designing, and implementing database design and maintenance; preparing reports, manuscripts, and presentations of findings; using and                  applying GIS and database software in a work environment.
·       Demonstrated problem solving skills.
·       Ability to work independently and effectively with others and communicate well through both oral and written communication
 
Preferred qualifications
·       Experience with natural resource conservation and management
·       Certification or further demonstrated educational training in GIS and/or database management
·       Experience with applying database management and GIS in natural resource conservation and management
·       Experience with managing and analyzing large spatial databases
·       Demonstrated ability to work as a team member
·       Demonstrated skills in time and data management
·       Willingness to travel
·       Self-motivated
