Position Title: Desert Tortoise Biologist – Nevada Greenlink Transmission Project
Location: Las Vegas, NV to Reno, NV (project corridor)
Status: Full-time project hire (7 days/week)
Compensation: TBD (dependent on qualifications and experience)
Hours: Full field schedule, 7 days/week; mobilizations of 3+ weeks preferred

About the Role:
SummitWest Environmental is hiring experienced Desert Tortoise Biologists to support clearance surveys and monitoring for the Nevada Greenlink Transmission Project—a large-scale infrastructure project spanning from Las Vegas to Reno. This is a multi-year, high-demand opportunity offering significant field time in sensitive desert habitats.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct desert tortoise (DETO) clearance surveys and construction monitoring
- Ensure compliance with USFWS protocols and environmental regulations
- Manage long-duration field mobilizations and daily field reporting
- Work collaboratively with crews in remote desert environments
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in biology, ecology, environmental science, or related field
- Previous USFWS Desert Tortoise (DETO) survey authorization
Highly experienced, non-authorized candidates may also be considered
- Extensive field experience with desert tortoise monitoring and clearance
- Ability to work long hours outdoors and commit to multi-week mobilizations
Schedule & Duration:
- Start date: Late June to early July 2025
- Anticipated duration: Up to 2 years
- Workdays: 7 days/week, with flexible preferred off days
- Mobilization blocks of 3+ weeks preferred
Compensation & Logistics:
- Wage rate: TBD based on experience
- Travel and lodging arrangements will be coordinated based on field schedule
