Description
Why does the job exist?
This position provides statewide leadership and supervision over field activities for the Mexican Gray Wolf Reintroduction project. This position will provide internal and external statewide coordination on project management with various cooperators including, federal agencies, private landowners, grazing leases, and other state agencies.

How does it get done?
Department directions and objectives. This position will guide the management of wolves among various cooperators while understanding the federal and state regulations. 

Direct Mexican Gray Wolf management across New Mexico, supervise and direct Department wolf biologist(s), and manage statewide project operations. Plan, prioritize, organize, administer and lead all aspects of the Department's Mexican wolf recovery efforts and provide necessary direction on all field level implementation for personnel under direct supervision.

Coordinate timely and accurate completion of statewide project updates and other required technical reports for Department leadership and Cooperating agencies. Supervise preparation of annual reports regarding wolves in New Mexico and present inter-agency recommendations to supervisor and other project cooperators. Ensure appropriate application of field techniques and project data collection, management, and analysis of Mexican wolf recovery efforts. Coordinate training, supervision, and evaluation of staff.

Participate in meetings, assist with project outreach and public meetings, and ensure necessary agency coordination and communication on statewide project management issues. Develop and analyze project annual work plans that address statewide goals and objectives.
