Description
Tin Mountain Conservation Center Mission: To Promote an appreciation of the natural environment among children, adults, and families through hands-on programs in schools, at camps, and in the community, and to demonstrate responsible stewardship of natural resources through land protection, research, sustainable forestry, and energy.

Overview: Tin Mountain’s Summer Camps use a combination of Science, Adventure, and Fun to support the organization’s mission through multi-sport explorations of the natural world. This is accomplished through day and overnight adventure programs that may include hiking, backpacking, canoeing, climbing (with an outside outfitter), and swimming.  Explorers Camps typically run for 6 weeks, each week with its own theme and age range (9-16 years old). On non-overnight days, programs run 9:00am-4:00 or 4:30pm. Every week includes 1 to 3 overnights at established campsites in both frontcountry and backcountry settings.
 
Specific Duties Include, but not limited to:
  • Participate in staff training in June.
  • With a co-instructor and high school-aged Jr. Counselor, supervise up to 12 participants each day.
  • Assist with daily tasks; loading and unloading canoes, setting up campsites, loading vans, etc.
  • Lead hiking, backpacking, and paddling trips employing technical and soft skills
  • Additional adventure camp duties include meal planning, trip planning, gear maintenance 
  • Completion of full summer commitment to Explorer’s Camp (6-7 weeks/summer)
  • Set up the facility at the beginning of camp.
  • Transport participants to offsite locations in Tin Mountain vehicles
  • Clean up the facility and gear at the end of each day and week of camp.
  • Maintain medical records and complete incident reports when necessary.

 
Qualification/Skills:
  • Environmental education or teaching experience preferred
  • Summer camp experience preferred
  • Trip leading experience preferred
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification
  • A current driver’s license
  • (Water safety training a plus but not required)

Reports to: Education Director
Pay Range: $16 with housing included.  Living stipend available if housing is waived.
