The Borderlands Research Institute (BRI) HOME - BORDERLANDS RESEARCH INSTITUTE at Sul Ross State University is seeking a motivated Master’s student to conduct a thesis project focused on spatiotemporal wetland habitat dynamics in arid and semi-arid systems, particularly within the Chihuahuan Desert.

·         Remote sensing and geospatial analysis of wetland surface water availability

·         Quantitative assessment of waterbird/waterfowl habitat availability

·         Evaluation of factors influencing wetland quality

·         Integration of ecological and management implications to support restoration and conservation strategies

·         B.S. in Wildlife Science, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field

·         Experience or coursework in GIS/remote sensing and quantitative analysis preferred

·         Experience or interest in programming (R, Python, or JavaScript) 

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills

·         Demonstrated interest in wetland ecology, waterfowl/wildlife conservation, or arid/semi-arid landscape management

·         Ability to work independently and collaboratively with agency partners and NGOs
