The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is currently seeking to fill three Senior Wildlife Technician - Depredation positions. The successful candidates will assist regional offices’ wildlife staff implement wildlife programs that assist in preventing and compensating private landowners who are experiencing conflict with big game. In addition to this, the successful candidate will also assist in the administration of the Access Yes! program. Responsibilities include working directly with private landowners and sportsman; using and maintaining trucks, ATVs; conducting plant and animal surveys; collecting data and managing electronic databases; assisting with report writing.

General Information:
- This announcement will be used to fill the current Senior Wildlife Technician - Depredation positions at our Panhandle Regional office in Coeur d’Alene, Magic Valley Regional Office in Jerome, and Salmon Regional office in Salmon, and it may also be used to fill future statewide openings for Senior Wildlife Technician - Depredation.
- Senior Wildlife Technicians – Depredation may be required to ride in single engine airplanes and helicopters. With or without reasonable accommodations, these positions may involve walking for several hours in challenging and adverse terrain and weather conditions, handling unsedated wildlife animals, lifting and carrying up to 65 lbs. The work schedule may include some long workdays, over-night stays, and weekend work.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to complaints concerning wildlife depredations.
- Assist in developing partnerships with farmers and ranchers experiencing wildlife depredations and provides solutions to minimize losses.
- Haze wildlife away from agricultural crops.
- Assist regional staff with depredation mitigation which includes delivering and erecting fencing materials, delivering and deploying wildlife deterrence equipment.
- Designs and implements data collection programs to estimate yield losses.
- Assist in implementing research to address depredation and landowner/sportsman issues.
- Assist with administering a private lands access program for hunters and anglers.
- Assist with big game check stations.
Minimum Qualifications: (These qualifications are required.)
- Good knowledge of wildlife ecology and habitat requirements. (Typically gained by successful completion of college coursework in a wildlife related field equivalent to an associate degree and one year of experience in habitat maintenance or wildlife related work OR a bachelor’s degree in a wildlife related field with no experience outside coursework.)
- Good knowledge of habitat development practices and procedures. (Typically gained by successful completion of college coursework in wildlife habitat requirements OR two years of work experience equivalent to a wildlife technician position.)
- Experience recording, summarizing, and analyzing wildlife biological data. (Typically gained by successful completion of college-level math/biology courses; experience recording analyzing and summarizing biological data AND at least one college-level computer course or GIS course OR six months of experience manipulating data using a computer.)
- Valid driver's license.
The ideal candidates for these positions will have experience working with private landowners on private land access programs, depredations, or habitat improvement projects. Additional consideration may be given at the time of interview to candidates who have this training and/or experience.
