The Borderlands Research Institute (BRI) https://bri.sulross.edu/ at Sul Ross State University https://www.sulross.edu/ is seeking a motivated Master’s student to conduct a thesis project focused on assessing wintering habitat suitability for a migratory game bird in the southwest U.S. (TX, NM, AZ, and southeast CA) and Mexican Highlands. 

·         Develop habitat suitability and species distribution models using established data sets and sources (e.g., GPS data and NDVI) 

·         Evaluation of factors influencing habitat suitability, resource selection, and species distribution 

·         Integration of ecological and management implications to support restoration and conservation strategies 

Qualifications: 

·         B.S. in Wildlife Science, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field 

·         Experience or coursework in GIS/remote sensing and quantitative analysis preferred 

·         Demonstrated interest in movement ecology, wetland ecology, wetland dependent wildlife conservation, resource selection, or arid/semi-arid landscape management

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills 

·         Ability to work independently and collaboratively with agency partners and NGOs
