Description
Water & Air Research, Inc. is looking for a detail-oriented and scientifically driven Macroinvertebrate Taxonomist to join our team of environmental professionals. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and classifying aquatic macroinvertebrates—to support ecological assessments, environmental monitoring, and compliance projects. Your work will directly contribute to water quality evaluations and ecosystem health studies for a variety of public and private sector clients.
Responsibilities
- Identify and classify freshwater and/or marine organisms using taxonomic keys and laboratory analysis.
- Develops and implements project plans and schedules; reviews project accounts; assigns, oversees, and evaluates project staff; and communicates with clients
- Creates budgets, designs scope of work, prepares proposals, gives presentations, and produces moderately complex designs.
- Performs fieldwork, which may include vegetation and wildlife identification and monitoring, and collection.
- May include working from boats, in water, or along the banks of streams, rivers, lakes, and estuaries in order to collect water, sediment, fish, macroinvertebrates, and aquatic plant samples.
- Researches and maintains marketing contacts. Interacts directly with clients and prospective clients.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or related science area.
- Minimum of 2 years of related taxonomy experience. Master’s degree in biology or related field may substitute for some experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the identification of aquatic macroinvertebrates.
- Familiarity with freshwater and/or marine ecosystems, depending on project needs.
- Proficiency with dichotomous keys and stereomicroscopy.
- Experience with project management.
- Proficiency in assessments, data collection, statistical analysis, and report writing preferred
- Travel will be dependent on project demands.
- Valid drivers license with clean driving record required.
- SCUBA certification, including PADI Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver, or equivalent highly preferred.
