Project Manager – Ecological Restoration & Land Stewardship
Location: Colgate, Wisconsin (Field-based across Southern and Eastern Wisconsin)
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview:
 We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Project Manager to oversee and implement ecological restoration projects, including prescribed burns, invasive species control, and habitat restoration. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ecological restoration practices, project management, and team leadership.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Project Planning & Execution:


    • Develop and implement ecological restoration projects, including prescribed burns, invasive species management, land management plans, and habitat restoration.


    • Conduct site assessments and develop management plans in collaboration with clients and colleagues.


    • Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and budget.
    • Project sales development.
    • Handle day to day operations of projects


  • Team Leadership:


    • Lead and supervise field crews during restoration activities. The Field Supervisor reports to you and you will oversee all project management. 


    • Provide training, mentorship, and oversight to team members. Track crew members performance.


    • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and best practices.


  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement:


    • Communicate effectively with clients, landowners, and crew.


    • Build and maintain strong relationships to support ongoing and future projects.


  • Administrative Duties:


    • Maintain detailed project records, including budgets, timelines, and reports.


    • Assist in grant writing and securing funding for projects.


    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Development and oversight of project work plans, timelines, contracts, and budgets/estimates.
    • Market, promote and attend conferences and trade shows.


Qualifications:


  • Education & Experience:


    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.


    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in ecological restoration project management.
    • Business Management
    • Marketing and promoting





  • Technical Skills:


    • Proficiency in identifying native and invasive plant species in Wisconsin.
    • Experience with prescribed fire planning and implementation.
    • Knowledge of herbicide application techniques and safety protocols.
    • Perform ecological assessments, inventories, surveys, analyze and report monitoring results.
    • Familiarity with mapping and analysis.
    • Microsoft excel


  • Certifications:


    • Valid driver’s license.


    • Certified Pesticide Applicator in Wisconsin (Categories 5.0, and 6.0) or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.


    • Wildland Firefighter Training (S-130/190) preferred.





Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.


  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.


  • Comfortable traversing uneven terrain.
