Description
This position will develop and implement conservation and restoration projects on private and public lands within the Hood River Basin. These projects will include: instream habitat and channel restoration, riparian restoration, exclusion fencing installation/maintenance, irrigation piping and efficiency, and fish passage improvement. Assist with project development and implementation efforts for projects completed by CTWS partners. Attend meetings to represent Tribal interests the in basin, and communicate with agencies, Tribal membership, and public citizens to discuss projects and planning efforts. Assist with writing and management of grant funded projects. Assist with monitoring staff with monitoring strategy development and data collection as necessary.          

Responsibilities:
  • Develop, design, bid, implement, and maintain conservation and restoration projects on private and public lands. 
  • Assist with project development and oversee implementation efforts for projects completed by CTWS partners. 
  • Provide fisheries expertise during project design development.
  • Attend meetings to represent Tribal interests the in basin, and communicate with agencies, Tribal membership, and public citizens to discuss projects and planning efforts.
  • Assist with writing and management of grant funded projects.
  • Assist with developing and implementing annual statement of work and administering annual budget.

Knowledge & Skills (Qualifications):
  • Ideal applicant is experienced in watershed restoration project management and development, with excellent communication skills.
  • Applicant must be able to frequently set up and lead meetings with landowners, agencies, and organizations.
  • Working knowledge of habitat requirements of anadromous fish species in the Pacific Northwest is essential for this position.
  • Project design ability, contract, and technical writing skills are a must.

Education and Experience (Required):
  • A bachelor’s degree in natural resources management, fisheries or related field plus at least one year of experience in project management are required.
  • Experience developing and implementing conservation and restoration projects that target watershed and habitat recovery for anadromous fish is required.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with landowners, partners and the public.
  • An understanding of GIS, database management, and Mac OS and related office software is desirable.

Other:
Applicant must be comfortable with frequent travel, often independently in remote locations throughout the Hood River Basin. This position requires knowledge and experience in fish habitat restoration and conservation practices. A self-starter, who can thrive with minimal supervision and instruction, with the drive and passion for a long career in natural resources is critical for success in this position. Must have a valid driver’s license, be able to pass drug screening and a background check.
