Herpetology internship available
Tall Timbers Research Station & Land Conservancy is seeking an individual primarily for checking snake drift fence arrays. The work is at Tall Timbers in the Red Hills region surrounding Thomasville, Georgia and Tallahassee, Florida. The internship is maximally a 16-week appointment, August – Nov., start and end dates are flexible with a preferred start date of mid-August.
Qualifications
· Biology degree or related field or working towards Bachelor’s degree with minimum 1-year field experience
· Previous experience with ArcGIS software and GPS a plus
· Must be U.S. citizen and have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, no infractions in last 3 years
· Ability to walk long distances through rough terrain in hot, buggy conditions
· Ability to carry 30 pounds over distance across rough terrain
· Work with venomous snakes a plus
Duties
· Check snake trap drift fence arrays for 3 weeks each month and assist working up snakes
· Gopher tortoise monitoring
· Dipnet for striped newts as weather conditions allow
· Other duties as assigned
Compensation
· Internship stipend $295/week ($1,180/month)
· Housing provided
