Description
 Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is seeking to hire a seasonal wildlife health field technician to assist with multiple disease surveillance projects. This is a 3-month position starting mid-September through early December.  

 Duties will include: 
• Diagnostic sample collection from wildlife, performing diagnostic assays, chronic wasting disease sampling, tick collection, and tick dragging 
• Diagnostic sample handling, submissions, and shipment 
• Performing necropsies and other procedures to diagnose wildlife diseases 
• Data collection, entry, and management 
• Participation in wildlife captures and health assessments and collection samples for disease surveillance and diagnosis 
• Assist wildlife management area biologists/staff with projects as necessary  
• Contacting landowners and interacting with the public in a professional manner 
• Requires a significant amount driving to field sites across central and eastern Kentucky 
 
Qualifications: 

-        Have obtained or be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in biology, wildlife ecology, or a related field. 
-        Valid U.S. driver's license and clean driving record. 
-        Authorization to work in the United States. 
-        Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or as a member of a team. 
-        Have great attention to detail when working with animals and collecting data. 
-        Experience and comfort navigating with maps, compasses, and handheld GPS units. 
-        Able to withstand the rigors of field work (hot/humid conditions, walking long distances over rugged terrain, able to lift up to 30 pounds, “buggy” conditions, early mornings and long days, flexible schedules because of weather, etc) 
 
Preferred Qualifications: Collecting biological samples, laboratory experience, data entry skills, familiarity with firearms, and operating 4-wheel drive vehicles. Experience with biosecurity principals and proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Google apps.
