THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION (9 MONTHS OR LESS) - PAYING $17.00 PER HOUR
Employment starts 9/22/25 and concludes 11/26/2025.
40 Hours/week: 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday, including all weekends during rifle seasons, with alternate days off during this time.

The CPW Montrose Service Center serves as the hub for customer service and field operations for Area 18. We have a busy and dynamic service center and are looking for a team player with an interest in gaining experience with CPW and in the field of wildlife biology to help us with our very busy fall season.
Description of Job
- Position assists with customer service in person, by phone, and by email. Answers the phone and provides customers with information. Takes and transfers messages as needed.
- Position assists with other service center functions such as selling licenses, passes, and permits.
- Position is responsible for performing chronic wasting disease (CWD) testing and mandatory checks of harvested game animals, and accurately records all data.
- Position takes samples from hunter-killed deer and elk heads, collects data, and accepts payment for testing. Position takes samples and measurements from animals presented for mandatory checks and accurately records all data.
- Training is provided on sampling for CWD testing and mandatory check procedures. Animals presented for testing and inspection will include: deer, elk, moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, black bears, and mountain lions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be 18 years of age or older.
· Must have a current & valid driver's license or reliable transportation.
· Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions and lift 50 lbs.
· Ability to interact positively with the public in various situations.
· The work site will provide some uniform items; however, the employee may be required to purchase limited uniform items (such as dark blue jeans) at their own expense.
· Applicants may be subject to the successful completion of a comprehensive background check.
· Must be willing and able to work 40 hours per week.
· Possess strong interpersonal communication skills to deliver excellent customer service.
· Basic computer skills required (MS Office Suite, Google App Suite).
· Must be able to use paper and digital maps to record accurate harvest locations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Recent college graduates or students with Natural Resources education preferred.
· Hunting experience is helpful.
· Previous experience handling money and working with the public is preferred.
