Description
This position is with the Reno County Conservation District where you will work as an affiliate employee with the USDA-NRCS. Starting pay is $44,959 per year with an annual $4,800 health insurance incentive to be provided in lieu of health insurance.
Soil Technicians will be trained on NRCS conservation practices to assist local landowners. Common practices include but are not limited to grassed waterways, terraces, watering facilities for livestock, brush management, and much more. This position involves both field and office work.
Responsibilities include visiting landowners, evaluating field conditions and conservation best management practices, designing practices, overseeing construction, checkout, and related field/office duties. The job includes field work in all weather conditions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED. Requirements include a background in conservation or agriculture (a two-year degree with agriculture classes will substitute for background in conservation or agriculture), an ability to communicate effectively and work well with people, a valid Kansas state driver’s license or ability to acquire one within 90 days of establishing residency, and a successful security background investigation clearance as required by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture.
