Description
This position serves as the Assistant Chief for the Communications, Education and Outreach Section. Responsibilities include R3 (Recruitment, Retention and Reactivation) Coordinator, supervise the Hunter Development Program, and management of shooting range development projects. Serves as the Division’s R3 Coordinator, leading efforts to evaluate and align R3 initiatives with statewide goals and national models. Leads grant writing, reporting, and management for hunter development, shooting sports, and range infrastructure projects. Works closely with program managers, section leadership, and external partners to develop strategic plans, secure funding, and expand outreach capacity. Supports the Section Chief with budget planning, staffing needs, performance tracking, and interagency coordination. Represents the Section in Division-wide planning processes, national working groups, and policy discussions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Zoology, Fisheries Management, Wildlife Management or a natural resources related field from an accredited college or university  AND  Two years of related natural resources experience in a managerial or supervisory role.  OR  One year of experience required at the lower level Manager 1, Natural Resources (NRM040) or position equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference may be given to applicants with: • A Master’s degree in wildlife science or a closely related field • Experience with grant-writing, proposals, and budgeting • Experience with shooting range development and/or management  • Experience with hunter, angler and/or shooter recruitment, retention and reactivation (R3) initiatives • Supervisory experience • DNR/WRD employment experience
