JOB DESCRIPTION:
Mount Hood Environmental is seeking a motivated Habitat Restoration Project
Manager to join our interdisciplinary team and support the development,
coordination, and implementation of stream restoration projects in the Upper
Salmon River Basin of central Idaho. This includes, but is not limited to, grant
writing, landowner outreach, project development, review of project designs,
coordination and collaboration with regional partners and clients, permitting,
construction oversight, project management, budget tracking, report writing, and
monitoring efforts. Workload is expected to be approximately 80% focused on
restoration project development, coordination, and implementation, with the
remaining 20% dedicated to monitoring and other tasks, depending on project
needs and the candidate’s skills.

EXAMPLE OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop stream restoration projects through collaborative partnerships with
local, state, and federal agencies, NGOs, tribes, and private landowners. - Draft competitive grant applications and give associated in-person
presentations annually to acquire project funding. - Develop and manage project budgets and contracting agreements to
complete restoration design, permitting, and construction. - Draft/review necessary documents to meet permit requirements for ESA
consultation, cultural resources consultation, and the Clean Water Act
(Section 401, 402 and 404). - Oversight of project construction including quality control of construction
following engineering designs and specifications, and regulatory compliance
monitoring. - Draft project progress and completion reports to meet funding and
regulatory agency requirements. - Attend monthly in-person meetings as part of the Upper Salmon River Basin
Technical Team, a collaborative working group focused on local natural
resource conservation. - Help with restoration efficacy research and monitoring efforts including fish
abundance and habitat surveys, photo point monitoring, water temperature
data collection, and discharge measurements. - Occasional travel to fisheries and restoration-related conferences and out-of-
basin tours.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries, Restoration Ecology, Natural Resources,
Environmental Science, and two years of related experience, - OR Master’s degree in any of the above or an equivalent field.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications.
- Understanding of Pacific Northwest salmon and steelhead populations and
restoration actions employed to conserve and enhance populations.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing stream restoration
projects. - Demonstrated experience acquiring project funding through grant
application processes. - Experience with project management including developing budgets, hiring
contractors, construction oversight, and regulatory compliance monitoring. - Experience working with regulatory agencies related to ESA consultation,
cultural resource consultation, and the Clean Water Act. - Background in fish ecology (particularly, anadromous salmonid biology)
and/or water management in the Pacific Northwest. - Experience with ecological data collection including the use of continuous
water temperature data loggers and discharge measurement devices. - Proficient in using GIS platforms, data compilation, and project management
software. - Strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication, and
the ability to work independently and as a part of a team comprised of
diverse stakeholders. - A high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple project
timelines.
LOCATION:
Salmon, Idaho. This position will require a high degree of coordination and
collaboration with regional partners and landowners. The employee will be
expected to work from the MHE Salmon office or in the field an average of three
days per week, with the option to work remotely when appropriate.
