Description
Description:
I am seeking a highly-motivated, self-sufficient M.S. student to investigate multiple questions regarding northern bobwhite resource selection and population dynamics. This project will involve using radio telemetry to monitor movement, resource selection, survival, and reproductive behavior of bobwhites on a Mississippi wildlife management area. The student will work closely with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks staff and be expected to regularly engage with the public regarding research activities.
Qualifications:
Qualifications: Interested students must have a bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 minimum GPA in wildlife management or related field, ability to work independently with minimal supervision, supervise seasonal field technicians, skills to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with state agency staff and the public, and tolerance for harsh field conditions associated with Mississippi’s climate. Use of off-road vehicles and ATVs/UTVs will be required.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference may be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in game bird research, analyzing field data, using radio telemetry and statistical analyses.
To APPLY: Please submit a combined PDF including 1) cover letter discussing your qualifications and career goals, 2) curriculum vitae, 3) a sample of scientific writing and 4) complete contact information for three professional references to mdm380@msstate.edu.
