Description
The Global Ecology and Conservation Lab at Baylor University is seeking a highly motivated candidate for a fully funded PhD position beginning in Fall 2026. The selected candidate will develop and lead innovative, interdisciplinary research to address complex socio-ecological challenges at the food-water-climate nexus. The student will work collaboratively with partners to develop equitable solutions to global change of freshwater habitats, biodiversity, and provisioning services using advanced quantitative and remote sensing techniques. The student is encouraged to develop research in an area of high conservation priority. Research topics may include community-based fisheries management, climate adaptation and resilience, coupled human-natural systems, assessment of drivers of change, freshwater refugia, protected areas, and integrated water resource management. In addition to a dissertation, the student will be expected to produce peer-reviewed publications and disseminate research findings to scientific and non-scientific audiences and relevant stakeholders. 
 
Qualifications: 
  • M.S. in fisheries and wildlife, natural resource management, ecology, environmental science, data science or other related fields (GPA > 3.5) 
  • High proficiency in quantitative ecology, including data management, data visualization, advanced statistical analysis, GIS, and computational modeling in R and/or Python 
  • Strong scientific writing skills with a track record of peer-reviewed publications 
  • Demonstrated experience leading community-engaged, actionable scientific research with diverse partners in international and/or community-based settings 
  • High proficiency in English (TOEFL iBT score > 90, IELTS band score > 7.0) 
 
Salary and Benefits: Annual stipend (starting at $33,000) for up to five years; plus tuition, fees, and health insurance.
