Position Summary
Position is responsible for every day operational tasks of the Environmental Education Day Camp programs under the supervision and direction of day camp coordinator.
Position Responsibilities
Follows all Indy Parks and Recreation Seasonal Policies and Procedures.
Supervises campers, volunteers, and counselor in training (CIT's)
Supervises the medical needs and camper safety while in the program
Develops and maintains programming supplies, educational materials, biological and geological specimens
Coordinates daily nature activities including hiking, swimming, crafts, and nature lessons
Implements daily attendance procedures, activities, and field trip schedule
Communicates with parents, counselors, and park staff

Qualifications
Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree or working toward a degree in Interpretation, Recreation, Environmental Education, Education, or Natural Resources strongly preferred. Knowledge of Indiana or midwestern flora, fauna, ecosystems, and biological interactions and concepts. Must be at least 18 years of age and have at least 2 years' experience working with youth in a supportive environment. Must have current certification in CPR/First Aid prior to summer employment. Must have good communication and organizational skills. Must attend Summer Day Camp Training and be able to start to work by June 1st. Must be able to work daytime hours ranging from 7:00am to 6:00pm. Some locations may require overnight hours or late hours.
Independent Judgment
Follows the established policies and procedures of the department. Adheres to all rules and regulations. Independent judgment may occur in decisions regarding day camp programs, activities, handling discipline problems, emergency situations, wild animals, and dealing with the public.
