Description
Texas A&M Forest Service, the state forest service, is seeking a highly motivated student for a summer internship with the Urban & Community Forestry program in Austin. 

Basics: 10-week assignment, beginning late May - early June and ending in August. 

·         Monday-Friday, 8AM – 5PM
·         $17/hr

General Summary: The student intern will support the development and maintenance of statewide community forestry initiatives and assist regional staff to attain program goals. The primary duty of the student intern will be to assist with Texas Treesilience Grant. They will help create and prioritize a framework within Travis County that identifies disadvantaged communities most at risk for the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). This framework will be used to develop strategies that address public health and climate resiliency through improved public and private tree management. 

Additionally, the student intern will support initiatives that deliver education, outreach, and technical assistance to stakeholders on various topics, including but not limited to tree planting and maintenance, geospatial mapping and data collection, tree inventory and analysis, urban stormwater management/green infrastructure, development guidelines, and recognition programs such as Tree City USA. Visit and assist Regional Urban Foresters/Ecologists with program delivery. 

Required Qualifications:

·         Working towards a bachelor’s degree in a related field and have completed their junior year of college up to second year postgraduates looking for professional experience. Must not be graduating in May. Majors should be in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Range Science, Emergency Management, or a closely related field.
·         Valid Texas Drivers License or ability to acquire one within 30 days.
·         Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
·         Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
·         Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with internal and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Coursework or experience with GIS or the ability to quickly learn GIS programs.
