Position available: Fisheries Research Technician (1 available position). 

Location:
Lincoln, Nebraska. 

Job Description: The Nebraska Cooperative Fish & Wildlife Research Unit is seeking a technician to assist with a graduate project assessing sampling gears for Silver and Bighead Carp in tributaries to the Missouri and Platte rivers in Nebraska. This project requires extensive field sampling during the spring, summer, and fall for juvenile and adult carp. Sampling will include electrofishing, trammel netting, and setting block nets. Technicians must be able to work a variable schedule and perform manual labor in rough conditions. Equipment repair and preparation will occur when not in the field. Opportunities for laboratory and computer work may exist depending on time of employment. 

Qualifications: Must have a valid driver’s license. A bachelor’s degree or coursework in Fisheries or a closely related field. Experience with standard fisheries gears, maintaining field equipment, and trailering is preferred but not required. Able to accurately collect and record data. Candidates must be comfortable working within a team and spending long days sampling. 

Terms of employment: $13.50 - $15.00 per hour, depending on experience. 40 hours per week. 

Start Date: Early May 2024.

End Date: Mid October 2024 (Flexible); can be shortened for undergraduate students
