Description
The Benson lab of predator-prey ecology is seeking a temporary employee to help process camera data that will primarily involve reviewing camera trap photos, identifying wildlife species, and recording various biological information associated with each image. Additional duties may include data entry, analysis of camera data, and other tasks. While the work will primarily be data processing there may be opportunities to engage intellectually with the research for motivated and capable individuals. There might even be opportunities to contribute to scientific publications for highly motivated individuals. This work will contribute to ongoing research on mule deer, white-tailed deer, elk, mountain lions, and coyotes.
Experience with reliably visually identifying North American wildlife is required. Ability to maintain focus and productivity for long hours of computer work is required. A BS in wildlife, ecology, or related field is expected but not required. Excitement about wildlife ecology and conservation is essential.
Remote work is unlikely so willingness and ability to work in Lincoln, Nebraska is required. Ideally work will begin in March 2025 and will not extend beyond December 2025. However, specific period of work is somewhat flexible.
Please send CV (with undergraduate GPA), Cover letter, and names and contact information (email and phone number) for at least 3 references (feel free to include more) as a single PDF file to jbenson22@unl.edu as soon as possible. We will consider applications as they are received and will fill the position as soon as a suitable candidate is identified.
