Description
Applications are requested for a funded Masters research assistantship in freshwater ecology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign mentored by Dr. Eric R. Larson (https://nres.illinois.edu/directory/erlarson). The selected student will work with a collaborative team of researchers at the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, University of Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, and Trout Unlimited to investigate distributions, habitat associations, and patterns of disease or parasite prevalence between native and non-native crayfish species in southwestern Wyoming. 

The assistantship is anticipated to begin on January 1st, 2025. Monthly salary starts at $2,622 and the position includes a tuition waiver. A Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, fisheries, zoology or a related field is required. Preferences for the hire include experience in freshwater field ecology in remote locations, demonstrated quantitative and GIS skills, knowledge of some molecular methods like PCR, and interpersonal skills in working with natural resource managers and private land owners.
