Natural Resources Job Board

The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia, Athens, invites applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic potential M.S. students starting in Spring or Summer 2025. The research project is with the Southern Pine Health Research Cooperative (https://southernpinehealth.org) at the Warnell School. The M.S. research will focus on Nantucket pine tip moth integrated pest management in southern pine forests with a focus on insecticide use and non-target environmental assessments. Extensive fieldwork in Georgia and lab work will be required. The candidate will be stationed on the Athens Campus for classes and the Tifton Campus for fieldwork. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in entomology or a related field with an independent spirit to develop, conduct, and publish research. A background in forest and land measurements would be an advantage. A B.S. in a related field is a prerequisite for the position. A competitive salary and benefits package will be provided for 2 years. 
 
The involved faculty will be Dr. Elizabeth McCarty and Dr. David Clabo. The student will work with the Forest Health Laboratory (https://ugaforesthealth.org/) on the Tifton Campus at the University of Georgia. This lab is a dynamic team that works on a broad range of ecological issues, forest insect species, and ecosystems. This project is funded by the Southern Pine Health Research Cooperative. This cooperative is funded by private forest companies and USDA Forest Service and provides leadership in managing major pests and pathogens using rigorous applied research with practical solutions in the southeastern pine forests.
