Instructional Intern, Casper Mountain Science Program

Contract status and length: Temporary Internship, 15 weeks (2 weeks of training, 13 weeks with students)

Fall Semester:  September 2, 2025 - December 12, 2025 (Dates are approximate)

Application closing date: Positions open until filled.

Program Description: We hire enthusiastic instructors who are interested in exploring place-based science education and improving their teaching skills. We use the outdoors to introduce students to field studies and develop an appreciation of our environment. Our mission is to provide students the opportunity to learn outdoors to increase their knowledge of science, find delight in nature, and reflect on their place in the world.

Job Summary: Instructional interns lead day trips and supervise an overnight program approximately once a week. They teach a curriculum based on the Wyoming State Standards and collaborate with CMSP staff and classroom teachers. While some lessons and activities are taught inside our lodge, most teaching is done in the field. Interns can expect to be physically active outdoors for multiple hours per day. Day trips and overnight programs are scheduled Monday through Thursday, and training and classroom visits occur on Fridays. The exact work hours each day may vary.

We use Camp Sacajawea, owned by the Girl Scouts of Montana and Wyoming, which is located atop Casper Mountain. The campus consists of a lodge, yurts for student overnight visits, and access to hundreds of acres of forest and trails for outdoor exploration and learning. Our lodge includes indoor classrooms, intern bedrooms, an industrial kitchen, and laundry facilities, among other amenities. Bedrooms may be shared with another intern instructor, dormitory style.

Weekends and evenings provide opportunities to explore the outdoor recreation opportunities on Casper Mountain and around Wyoming. We are located just one mile from Hogadon Ski Basin and a few hours from Devil's Tower National Monument, Grand Teton, and Yellowstone National Parks.

Training: Interns receive two weeks of training at the beginning of their internship and each Friday throughout the semester. Training focuses on classroom management, instructional strategies, local ecology, geology, and more.

Compensation & Benefits: $4,800 total. Interns will be paid monthly ($1200 monthly for four months). On-site housing at our lodge and some food are also provided.
