Description
Smith Environmental and Engineering is looking to expand our current team of wildlife biologists and ecologists with 1-2 prairie dog management specialists. No direct prairie dog experience is required, but field work or research experience is strongly preferred. This position is well-suited for early career scientists looking to learn more about environmental consulting and wildlife management. College graduates are preferred, but college students or other interested individuals are welcome to apply.

Prairie dog management tasks generally will consist of live-trapping for relocation, humane euthanasia, and humane fumigation (i.e., no poison baits). Subtasks may include population estimates, coterie identification, Burrowing Owl surveys, and colony mapping. All training will be provided.

Pay rate will be dependent upon experience. Employees that obtain a Certified Operator or Qualified Supervisor license from the Colorado Department of Agriculture are given a $1/hour raise once licensed. All applicants must possess a valid drivers license and be able to pass a background check. The work day will be spent almost entirely in the field under a range of weather conditions.

This position will provide full-time hours through the end of November, with the potential for continued work through the winter. Preference will be given to applicants who can commit to 40-50 hour weeks, but applicants interested in part-time work (such as students) are also encouraged to apply. Interviewing and hiring are expected to begin immediately, so preference will be given to applicants with immediate availability.

All work is based out of SMITH's offices in Dacono, Colorado, but work sites are often assigned based on where staff live to minimize commute time.
