This leadership role combines project implementation related to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation America's Ecosystem Restoration Initiative (AERI) in partnership with the Cherokee Nation. The position will expand into additional strategic planning, oversight, and partnership development to strengthen the organization’s impact on watershed health and water quality in Northeast Oklahoma. The Director will represent IRWP at the state and regional levels, build strong relationships with partners, agencies, local governments, and landowners, and overseeing planning and implementation of ecological restoration and water quality improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities:
·         Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of the AERI planning grant and IRWP’s work in Oklahoma in alignment with the Illinois River Watershed Management Plan.

·         Develop landowner agreements in partnership with private and public landowners to protect and restore culturally significant species and habitats.
·         Represent IRWP to state agencies, tribal partners, local communities, and other key stakeholders in Oklahoma.
·         Manage project budgets, contracts, and reporting requirements for grants and partnerships originating in Oklahoma.
·         Supervise and support contractors and consultants working on restoration, recreation, or other initiatives in Oklahoma.
·         Coordinate with IRWP leadership and the Arkansas team to ensure consistency in restoration strategies, communications, and reporting across the watershed.
·         Provide expert guidance on watershed management, restoration design, and green infrastructure implementation.
·         Oversee outreach, education, and community engagement efforts to build public support for conservation and restoration initiatives.
·         Coordinate media and press opportunities in Oklahoma in conjunction with Arkansas leadership and per IRWP policies.

Qualifications:
·         Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Watershed Management, law or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
·         Minimum of 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in natural resource management, watershed restoration, or environmental program leadership.
·         Demonstrated success managing complex projects, budgets, and partnerships across multiple jurisdictions or stakeholder groups.
·         Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills, with a proven ability to build consensus among diverse partners.
·         Strong familiarity with Oklahoma’s water quality policies, conservation programs, and ecological restoration practices.
·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; GIS or data visualization experience preferred.

Compensation:
Competitive salary commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits package includes generous annual leave, health insurance match, retirement contributions, and flexible scheduling.

Location:
Based in Eastern Oklahoma with regular travel within the Illinois River Watershed region and to IRWP headquarters in Cave Springs, Arkansas.

Application:
Interested candidates are invited to submit a resume, brief cover letter, and three professional references to jobs@irwp.org

Description
The lab of Dr. Henry Streby in the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Toledo invites applications for a PhD graduate student position starting Summer 2026. The Streby Lab studies population ecology, animal movement ecology, and evolutionary biology with the goals of producing actionable science for biodiversity conservation and management and improving our knowledge of the evolution of animal behaviors. Along the way, they strive to improve upon conventional methods and develop novel methods in field data collection and analysis to expedite progress in wildlife ecology research. To learn more about the Streby Lab, please visit www.henrystreby.com

The Streby Lab is seeking a PhD student to conduct dissertation research under a recently awarded grant to study various aspects of nocturnal migrant songbird movements and habitat selection in response to experimental manipulation of anthropogenic light. The successful candidate will join a diverse and friendly graduate program within the Department of Environmental Sciences in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The University of Toledo recently achieved R1 status as a highly research active university, with a beautiful campus nestled in a very affordable suburban area. The city of Toledo has many of the highlights of big cities (professional sports, nightlife, nationally recognized MetroPark system) without the exorbitant costs of most other places. Toledo is at the southern-most point of the Great Lakes and hosts incredible density and diversity of migratory birds, which attract more than $40M of tourism by bird enthusiasts every spring, and is an ideal location for ornithological research.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree, and preferably a Master’s degree, in Ecology or related field. They must have great interest in animal behavior and enthusiasm for the intensive processes of fieldwork, data processing, analysis, and writing and communicating about science to diverse audiences. Determination, curiosity, and a healthy level of skepticism are desired. Experience with analysis of avian nocturnal migration using the NEXRAD weather radar systems is desired. Experience identifying (sight and sound), capturing, handling, and banding birds of eastern North America is also desired. The successful candidate will have most, if not all, of these attributes. Enthusiasm for birding is not a necessary qualification and can be a liability for those who find it difficult to stay on task in areas of high bird activity.

Applicants should send cover letter and CV to Henry Streby at the provided email address.

Description
Are you passionate about field research, biodiversity conservation, and hands-on scientific work? The Bushveld Biodiversity Research Centre (BBRC) is offering an exciting internship opportunity focused on small mammal species diversity monitoring within a diverse private game reserve in South Africa.

About the Internship
This project is an opportunity to contribute to a significant research effort studying the diversity, abundance, and distribution of small mammal species. Interns will play a crucial role in identifying and monitoring various species, thereby contributing to a deeper understanding of the local ecosystem.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Setting and checking live traps to safely capture small mammals
  • Recording species data including identification, measurements, and other key ecological information
  • Ensuring ethical handling of all animals, following a strict catch-and-release approach
  • Assisting in habitat assessments to understand how vegetation and environmental factors influence species distribution
  • Contributing to a larger conservation initiative, as this project is essential for understanding the biodiversity of the reserve

Why This Project Matters
BBRC is based in a 27,000-hectare private game reserve that is home to over 17 antelope species and a wide variety of predators and other wildlife. Small mammals play a critical role in the ecosystem, and this project will help us fill important gaps in knowledge about their populations, behaviors, and ecological importance.

Who Should Apply?
We are looking for dedicated interns with an interest in wildlife ecology, zoology, conservation biology, or related fields. No prior experience is required, but a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for research are essential.

Duration of Stay
We recommend a commitment of 2 to 4 months to fully immerse yourself in the experience.

Conservation Fees & Logistics
A monthly conservation fee is required, covering:
  • Support for ongoing conservation efforts in the reserve
  • Shared accommodation within the reserve
  • Transport services: Pick-up from and drop-off at the Polokwane airport | Bi-weekly town trips for supplies

Are you a student or recent graduate with exceptional ArcGIS or QGIS skills? Do you want to use your expertise to contribute to wildlife conservation while working in a breathtaking natural environment? The Bushveld Biodiversity Research Centre (BBRC) is offering an exciting 3-month internship where you can make a meaningful impact while refining your research and technical skills.

About Us:
The BBRC is located on a 27,000-hectare wildlife reserve—home to 17 antelope species and two of the Big Five—dedicated to biodiversity research and preservation. Our work spans diverse projects, including giraffe population monitoring, bird habitat research, vegetation studies, and documenting wildflowers, butterflies, and other insects. We’re now seeking someone to enhance our mapping efforts and support our research with GIS technology.

Overview:
As a GIS intern, you’ll play a vital role in creating and refining detailed reserve maps, as well as updating project-specific maps and layers. This is a unique opportunity to merge technical expertise with conservation efforts.

Your role will include:
  • Map Creation and Updates: Use ArcGIS or QGIS to bring more detail to our reserve maps and create layered maps for individual research projects.
  • Data Integration: Collaborate with researchers to integrate project-specific data into the GIS framework, such as tracking wildlife movements or habitat preferences.
  • Project Support: Join ongoing mini-projects, applying your GIS expertise to enhance research on biodiversity, vegetation zones, or species distribution.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Provide input on how GIS tools can improve the efficiency and impact of our conservation efforts.

What Makes This Internship Special:
In addition to using and improving your GIS skills, you’ll have the chance to:
  • Work in an environment surrounded by untouched natural beauty and incredible wildlife.
  • Join fieldwork alongside researchers, integrating GIS tools into practical conservation projects.
  • Contribute directly to meaningful biodiversity research in a largely understudied region.

What We’re Looking For:
  • A student or recent graduate skilled in ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • A passion for conservation and an interest in applying GIS to support wildlife research.
  • Experience in creating detailed maps and managing spatial data.
  • A proactive approach to work, with strong problem-solving skills.

Duration of Stay:
Flexible | We recommend a commitment of 3+ months to fully immerse yourself in the experience.

Conservation Fees & Logistics:
A monthly conservation fee is required, covering:
  • Support for ongoing conservation efforts in the reserve
  • Shared accommodation within the reserve
  • Transport services: Pick-up from and drop-off at the Polokwane airport | Bi-weekly town trips for supplies
